Women Largely Absent from Boards of Top Latin America Companies

SAO PAULO -- Women occupy only 6.4 percent of directorships at the 100 largest companies in Latin America, according to a study released on Friday at the Global Summit of Women, attended by 1,000 participants from more than 60 countries.
The report, compiled by Corporate Women Directors International, or CWDI, shows that the female presence on Latin American corporate boards has increased only slightly since 2005, when the proportion was 5.1 percent.
“Latin American companies are falling behind regarding the promotion of women to leadership positions,” Natividad said.

SAO PAULO -- As mulheres representam apenas 6,4% da diretoria das 100 maiores empresas da América Latina, segundo levantamento da Corporate Women Directors International (CWDI), divulgado pelo fórum Global Summit of Women nesta sexta-feira em São Paulo. Quase a metade (47) dessas empresas não tem uma única mulher em seu conselho de administração.
Os números colocam a América Latina atrás da América do Norte (19,2%), Europa (20%) e Ásia – Pacífico (9,4%). A África foi desconsiderada na pesquisa. Entre os países latino-americanos representados por mpresas no estudo, a Colômbia está na liderança, com 13,4% dos assentos no conselho das suas maiores empresas ocupados por mulheres, mais que o dobro da média da região. No Brasil, cujas empresas compõem quase metade das maiores empresas na lista, a média é de 6,3%. Empresas do México têm apenas 5,1% da representação no conselho feminino, enquanto a percentagem do Chile, de 3,2%, é a mais baixa na região. Entre as empresas que contam com diretores do sexo feminino, 43% têm apenas uma só mulher.

Na manhã de hoje, 16, durante a sessão “Como criar uma economia rica e sustentável”, Tania Consentino, Presidente da Schneider Eletric América Latina, convidou uma das Top 20 Students do Global Summit of Women para trabalhar em sua empresa.
Débora dos Santos Carvalho, que está cursando o último ano de Engenharia Ambiental na USP – Universidade de São Paulo, questionou a palestrante como o Brasil poderia perder menos talentos. A resposta da presidente foi contundente: “Venha trabalhar conosco”.
Para estimular o crescimento de mulheres de negócios da próxima geração, 150 universitários de São Paulo participaram ontem, 15, do Youth Forum, painel formado por jovens mulheres que contaram sucessos e desafios, bem como o papel da economia criativa para a ascensão feminina no mundo dos negócios. Entre inúmeras inscrições, 20 alunas foram selecionadas e participaram gratuitamente do evento.
Pela primeira vez no Brasil em seus 25 anos de história, o evento, que acontece entre 14 e 16, no Grand Hyatt, em São Paulo, recebe 1200 mulheres de 63 países. Entre os participantes, Nguyen Thi Doan, Vice-Presidente do Vietnã, Joaquim Levy, Ministro da Fazenda, Eleonora Minicucci, Ministra da Secretaria de Políticas para as Mulheres, a empresária Luiza Trajano, além de 30 ministras de diversos países, 45 CEOs e centenas de líderes empresariais dos quatro continentes.

Women from 63 Countries Paraded their Exotic Costumes at the Global Summit of Women in São Paulo

African fabrics, Indian scarves and dresses from Korea and China gave color and elegance to the discussions on the Forum.
The 25th edition of the Global Women Forum in São Paulo, at the Grand Hyatt, was beyond discussions on the participation of women in the labor market and encouraging female entrepreneurship. A parade of costumes invaded the Congress, attended by 1200 women from 63 countries.
During the lively gala dinner, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngucka, UN Under-Secretary and UN Executive Director Women received from Irene Natividad, president of the Global Summit of Women, the Global Award Women's Leadership Award for her long defense of and trajectory for women’s empowerment globally and in South Africa, where she was Vice-President and Minister.
With the theme "Creative Women, Creative Economies", the 2015 Summit presents the fundamental role of women in the global market and innovation they bring to the twenty-first century economy. During the three days, the event had the participation of authorities, such as the Finance Minister, Joaquim Levy, and the Minister of the Department of Social Policies for Women, Eleonora Minicuchi, and 45 CEOS, such as Andrea Alvarez, Pepsico , Luiza Trajano, the Magazine Luiza, among other executives.
