Chunyuan Gu was a member of ABB’s Executive Committee and President of the Asia, Middle East, and Africa (AMEA) region for the company from 2017 through 2019. In his current role as Chairman of the Board of ABB China, he continues to play a key role in strengthening the company’s technology leadership in robotics while developing its business in China and the AMEA region. He started his career with ABB in 1989 as a Senior Research Fellow in Sweden and held several technology and management roles in robotics in Sweden before returning to China in 2006 to lead ABB’s global robotics R&D center in Shanghai. He soon became manager of the robotics business in China and, in 2012, was appointed head of the Discrete Automation and Motion division in North Asia, which includes the markets of China, Japan and South Korea. Recognized as a leading global expert in industrial robotics and industrial automation, his leadership roles have also included a strong focus on renewables.
