BIOGRAPHY

Elke Ferner has been a member of the board of UN Women Germany since 2019 and was elected as the Chair in April 2021. A politician committed to women’s rights for many years, she was a member of the German Bundestag from 1990 to 1998 and from 2002 to 2017. From December 2013 to March 2018, she was Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. From 2004 to 2018, she was Chairwoman of the Association for Social Democrat Women and has been a member of the board of PES Women at the European level since 2012. Since 2018, she has also been a member of the board of the German Women’s Council.
