{"id":3772,"date":"2015-07-28T11:03:42","date_gmt":"2015-07-28T15:03:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/?page_id=3772"},"modified":"2025-04-03T10:41:27","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T14:41:27","slug":"irene-natividad-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/irene-natividad-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Irene Natividad"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>Chair, GlobeWomen Research &amp; Education Institute<br \/>President, Global Summit of Women<br \/>Chair, Corporate Women Directors International<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-43703  alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Irene-Natividad-Headshot.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"215\" height=\"225\" align=\"middle\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Irene Natividad, a recognized leader for women in the United States and throughout the world, is Chair of the GlobeWomen Research and Education Institute, President of the Global Summit of Women, an annual international gathering of women leaders from around the world on business\/economic issues, and Chair of Corporate Women Directors International (CWDI), which promotes the increased participation of women on corporate boards globally.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Based in Washington, D.C., Ms. Natividad is the force behind the 35-year old Global Summit of Women, informally called \u201cThe Davos for Women\u201d by past participants for the caliber of its attendees and presenters, as well as its mix of business and government leaders.\u00a0 As CWDI Chair, she has produced 33 reports in 25 years on women directors in different countries, regions, and industries and has convened women board directors and executives to \u201cring the opening bell\u201d at 21 Stock Exchanges based in different countries to date &#8212; a business tradition in which she feels women must be seen.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ms. Natividad\u2019s commitment to promoting women, nationally and internationally, stems from her decade-long involvement with the National Women\u2019s Political Caucus, a 50-year-old bipartisan organization dedicated to electing and appointing more women to public office.\u00a0 Widely recognized for her outstanding leadership of the Caucus, she was elected President in 1985 and re-elected in 1987, the first Asian American ever to head a national political organization.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">During the nineties, she assumed the chairmanship of the National Commission on Working Women, which works on economic equity issues affecting women through groundbreaking research and training programs.\u00a0 Her commitment to women\u2019s economic empowerment has extended to the global arena, where she has provided a forum through the Global Summit of Women to exchange best practices in accelerating women\u2019s\u00a0economic progress.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Long known for her coalition work, Ms. Natividad has served on numerous boards of directors and advisory boards of nonprofits such as the Global Economic Symposium based in Germany, the National Association of Corporate Directors and the National Museum of Women in the Arts based in the U.S. \u00a0In addition, she served on corporate advisory boards for Cigna, Wyndham International, and L\u2019Oreal.\u00a0 She was also a member of the 2012 National Association of Corporate Directors\u2019 Blue Ribbon Commission on Board Diversity and the European Commission\u2019s Network to Promote Women in Decision-Making. \u00a0She brings to each of these groups her policy expertise, skills in network building and creative program development.\u00a0 In 1994, she was appointed to the Board of Directors of Sallie Mae, a<em> Fortune<\/em> 100 company, by President Clinton, where she served for eight years.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">At the international level, Ms. Natividad has worked to include women\u2019s voices and issues in global forums such as the OECD, World Bank, UN agencies, the European Forum for New Ideas, Global Solutions Forum, among others.\u00a0 She has been part of the T-20 (think tank for the G20), the W-20 (women\u2019s arm of the G20) and was appointed by President Macron to the G7 Advisory Council on Gender Equality during France\u2019s presidency in 2019. In 2021, her national and international efforts to improve the situation of women in the economic and political arenas was recognized as Chevalier of the National Order of Legion of Honor (Legion d\u2019Honneur) by decree of President Macron. She is also currently a member of the UN Women Leaders Network.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A native of the Philippines, Ms. Natividad is also a leader in the Asian American community, where she has focused her energies in politically empowering a group frequently referred to as \u201cthe invisible minority.\u201d\u00a0 She served as Deputy Vice Chair of the Democratic Party\u2019s Asian Caucus from 1982 to 1984, and has continued to organize numerous Asian American groups at all levels. She was the Executive Editor of the first-ever <u>Asian American Almanac<\/u> that was published by Gale Research in 1995.\u00a0 Currently, she is Co-Chair of Endorsements for the Asian American Action Fund, which supports Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders for public office.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A sought-after commentator, her views have aired nationally on PBS\u2019 \u2018To The Contrary\u2019, an all-women news analysis series in which she served as a regular panelist for over two decades.\u00a0 She has appeared on CNN Money, CNN news shows, Crossfire, the Today show, Good Morning America, Fox News, MSNBC, etc.\u00a0 Her editorials have appeared in <em>USA Today, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Des Moines Register, Chicago Tribune, Forbes <\/em>to name a few.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">She has been awarded a Doctorate in Humane Letters by Long Island University, from where she graduated valedictorian in 1971; and by Marymount College (New York) in 1994 for her global work on behalf of women.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ms. Natividad resides outside of Washington, DC with her husband Andrea Cortese.\u00a0 They have one son, Carlo Natividad Cortese.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Awards:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>2025 &#8220;Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award in Public Service&#8221; by decree of Pres.
