Hamon\/Ministere des Droits des Femmes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Malaysia\u2019s First Lady\u00a0<em>Datin Rosmah Mansor<\/em>, Chair of the 2013 GSW, led the largest delegation at the Summit with 89 women corporate and entrepreneurial leaders.\u00a0\u00a0China\u2019s Vice Chair of the All-China Women\u2019s Federation\u00a0<em>Meng Xiaosi<\/em>\u00a0came with 81 women in business.\u00a0\u00a0Coming in third largest with 77 delegates was the United States, while fourth place went to Spain with 70.\u00a0\u00a0Given the location, European participation comprised over half of the delegates, with France naturally having the largest representation at 315 registrants.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cThe Summit aims to be truly global, and it reached that goal in Paris where participation ranged from Austria to Armenia to Algeria to the Americas,\u201d states Summit President Irene Natividad.<\/p>\n<p>In various Summit sessions, leaders from government and business delved into the various ways women can speed up their progress in their nations\u2019 economies as executives, entrepreneurs and as workers.\u00a0\u00a0The focus was on solutions, whether in policies and programs, that could be shared across borders and across industries.\u00a0Above all, the delegates learned what \u2018global\u2019 really means through the very women who were there in Paris at this 24-year-old business\/economic forum for women.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><strong>II. MINISTERS EXCHANGE BEST PRACTICES IN PUBLIC\/PRIVATE SECTOR PARTNERSHIPS<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Thirty-five Ministers covering a variety of portfolios from health to gender equity to international trade to mineral resources gathered at a pre-Summit Roundtable to share specific programs or policies they have led in their respective countries that could advance the status of women or girls.\u00a0 France\u2019s Minister Vallaud-Belkacem kicked off the Roundtable by sharing her country\u2019s success in utilizing a quota to increase the presence of women on the boards of France\u2019s largest corporations.\u00a0 She was joined by Chairman and CEO of Invest in France Agency and CEO of Ubifrance Muriel Penicaud who discussed why companies responded to this quota law within the context of a larger discussion of what the private sector can do overall to increase women\u2019s access to corporate leadership roles.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-12380\" src=\"https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/najat-and-muriel-for-enews-300x200.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/najat-and-muriel-for-enews-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/najat-and-muriel-for-enews.png 391w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Minister Vallaud-Belkacem and Muriel Penicaud<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-12381\" src=\"https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/min-rt-u-for-enews-300x200.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/min-rt-u-for-enews-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/min-rt-u-for-enews.png 524w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Women government ministers at Ministerial Roundtable.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The majority of projects brought forward by the Ministers, however, covered a variety of ways to raise the number of women entrepreneurs in their countries, whether it\u2019s through early financing or training or coaching by established business owners.\u00a0 International Finance Corporation\/World Bank Vice President Nena Stolijkovic expounded on the need for infrastructure development to accelerate entrepreneurial growth, and she announced the IFC\/World Bank partnership with Goldman Sachs to raise US$600 million capital for women-owned enterprises.<\/p>\n<p>The idea which gained traction at the Roundtable was one introduced by Samoa and UN International Trade Center Executive Director Arancha Gonzalez &#8212; a government contracts quota for women-owned businesses.\u00a0 This is an initiative already undertaken by the Samoan government to \u2018grow\u2019 women-owned enterprises by giving them access to government contracting.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/?page_id=2383\">CLICK HERE TO SEE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE MINISTERIAL ROUNDTABLE<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><strong>III. ACCELERATING WOMEN&#8217;S ACCESS TO BOARD SEATS\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The ringing of the Opening Bell at the Paris Stock Exchange (Euronext) by Summit President Irene Natividad and Minister Vallaud-Belkacem with women board directors, CEOs and executives on June 4<sup>th<\/sup>, kicked off not only the 2014 GSW but also underscored a theme running throughout the Summit \u2013 \u2018Redesigning Economies\u2019 by adding women to corporate leadership.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CaHrYmVrx8Y\">Click here for Market Open Video.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-12382\" src=\"https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/euronext-irene-and-najat-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/euronext-irene-and-najat-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/euronext-irene-and-najat.jpg 403w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Summit President Natividad and Minister Vallaud-Belkacem<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-12383\" src=\"https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/awardees-for-enews-300x201.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/awardees-for-enews-300x201.png 300w, https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/awardees-for-enews.png 365w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Awardees at the Global Women\u2019s Leadership Awards Ceremony\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In a report by Corporate Women Directors International \u2013 the research arm of the Global Summit of Women \u2013 on \u201cWomen Directors of the Fortune Global 200\u201d, France\u2019s largest companies led all others with 29.7% board seats held by women.\u00a0 The average percentage of women directors, however, in the 200 largest companies in the world based in 26 countries was 17.3%, or a mere\u00a0<em>1% yearly increase for the last 10 years.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>Quotas in France and other countries have been instrumental in speeding up the number of women appointed to board seats.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/6389d9e0-ebf5-11e3-ab1b-00144feabdc0,Authorised=false.html?_i_location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ft.com%2Fcms%2Fs%2F0%2F6389d9e0-ebf5-11e3-ab1b-00144feabdc0.html%3Fsiteedition%3Duk&amp;siteedition=uk&amp;_i_referer=http%3A%2F%2Fglobewomen.org%2Fglobalsummit%2F#axzz34KrNkZpT\">For the Financial Times article on key CWDI findings, click here.)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>French companies with over 30% of their boards comprised of female directors were given\u00a0<em>Corporate Champion Awards<\/em>\u00a0at the Summit\u2019s Gala Dinner to CEOs or Chairs of GDF Suez, Orange, Kering, Societe Generale, Technip.\u00a0 Equally important, the Global Women\u2019s Leadership Awards was given to European Vice President Viviane Reding, who introduced a 40% quota for women directors in the region\u2019s largest economies.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/?page_id=2454\">(For more on Summit awardees, click here.)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Outside of quotas, other initiatives that work to open doors to the corporate board room for women were shared at a Board Diversity Roundtable, which looked at stock exchange listing requirements, shareholder proxy statements, industry-specific mandates, among other efforts that moved the needle for women\u2019s inclusion on corporate boards.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><em>IV. ENGAGING MEN IN GENDER DIVERSITY INITIATIVES<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Responding to a 2013 GSW challenge from Taj France CEO Gianmarco Monsellato to include more men at the Summit, several male CEOs and executives were invited to share their views and to attend this year\u2019s global gathering in Paris.\u00a0 An all-male CEO Forum on \u201cRedefining the Marketplace \u2013 the Business Case for Gender Equity\u201d brought together Sodexo\u2019s CEO Michel Landel, Societe Generale\u2019s CEO Frederic Oudea, Technip\u2019s CEO Thierry Pilenko, Taj-Deloitte CEO Gianmarco Monsellato, and former CEO of Orange, Telstra and US West Sol Trujillo to discuss the business impact of gender diversity in their respective companies.\u00a0 Former Booz Inc CEO Shumeet Banerji led the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>All the CEOs agreed that metrics should be used to measure managerial performance in implementing diversity in the same way that other factors are measured in terms of corporate performance.\u00a0 All agreed as to the necessity of gender balanced teams for future growth given shrinking workforces, a more diverse global market and the sheer \u2018rightness\u2019 of an inclusive workforce.\u00a0 Technip CEO Thierry Pilenko, however, reminded everyone that metrics aside, what matters is the \u2018heart\u2019, the personal commitment to do what is right because a CEO believes in it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12373 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Male-CEO-Forum-Photo-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Male-CEO-Forum-Photo.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Male-CEO-Forum-Photo-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/globewomen.org\/globalsummit\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Male-CEO-Forum-Photo-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The photo of the all-male CEO Forum without explanation of context generated some early negative social media, which was effectively rebutted by a\u00a0<em>Slate<\/em>magazine piece basically underscoring the need for men\u2019s voices\u00a0 to arrive faster at gender equity.\u00a0 \u201cThis is an important dialogue to have \u2013 why we need men with us in the battle for equal rights in the workplace,\u201d adds Summit President Irene Natividad.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/blogs\/xx_factor\/2014\/06\/16\/global_summit_of_women_all_male_panel_it_s_important_not_sexist_for_men.html\">(Click here for Slate article)<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><em>V.
